Just Say “No” to GMOs.

Genetic modification of food entails unnaturally adding genes into the DNA of food crops or animals. The result is a GMO, which can be engineered from bacteria, viruses, insects, animals and even humans.  Ingesting foods with GMOs can wreck havoc on your hormone levels, immune system function, and gut integrity.

Since the U.S. does not require labeling for this, here are 10 tips on how to avoid buying GMO food:

1.)    Buy organic- if the food in organic certified it is NOT allowed to contain GMOs.

2.)    Although there is no labels required for GMOs there are voluntarily labels that state the food is a NON-GMO.

3.)    Avoid at-risk products made with crops that are GM, The top four include: corn, soybeans, canola, and cottonseed.

4.)    Buy more fruits and vegetables! Only a small amount of fruits and vegetables are genetically modified.

5.)    Look at your ingredient list and avoid the top 4 at-risk products.

6.)    Farms will inject rbGH, the GM hormone, into cows to increase milk production. Organic dairy is free of the hormone.

7.)    Look for 100% wheat pasta, rice, oats and dried beans(except soybeans)

8.)    Avoid cereal and breakfast bars because they usually contain GMO ingredients.

9.)    Choose preserves, jams and jellies with cane sugar, not corn syrup.

10.)Look for 100% juice blends. Many sodas are composed of water and corn syrup.
